Mal sighed as he made his way back up the stairs to his apartment. He was dressed in a suit which was a rare sight for him. Today though he had a job interview. Hopefully that meant an end to his money trouble for a while. Of course he'd forgotten some of the documents they'd wanted in his haste and now had to retrieve them. He'd left enough time so he shouldn't be late if he was quick but he was cutting it close now. It was going to be one of those days he could tell.
That feeling didn't leave him as he went to unlock his door only to find that it wasn't locked any more. He might have assumed he forgot to lock it but he was rather meticulous with security. He carefully turned the knob, slowly edging the door open while he kept his back to the wall next to it. He wasn't going to take any chances. He'd only been gone about five minutes, he doubted anyone could be in an out in that time.
He thought he was ready to tackle whatever might be coming. Sometimes you jsut can't be prepared for everything though.

Cat, AKA Clare was too busy fighting with another dark immortal as the human man opened the door. She had her fangs exposed for only a moment, her feral cat like eyes locked onto the dark hair male who threatened her with a blade. He wanted the stone, the one that was in this apartment. A stone that could lead to power, to protection. A stone she needed for her own race, not his darker death filled kind.
" That stone is mine." She told him darkly, her body poised for combat as she slipped a dagger from within her brown leather coat sleeve. She had on a white tank top and a pair of black jeans and boots. She waited for the man to move, he went to knock her dagger away but she moved with the grace of a cat evading his attack. The male laughed. He knew she was no human.... but he did not know what she was at the same time. This was a fun game for him.
" Who said? I think it should belong to me. With the coven falling and the snakes raising their head for vengeance upon our kind I think I need it more so then you. I'm a bigger target for them, not a weak little thing like you. " It snapped. Clare cursed as she parried the blade again, spun around leaping over a couch as the guy lanced into it. The two squabbled, trashing the apartment for some time. Clare was ticked and agitated. She knew the human was close, she cursed as his scent filled her nose and her eyes contracted to look more human.
" Submitting my pet? Thats good." The guy grinned not thinking she was hiding her features to protect the guy from knowing what she was.
" Perhaps we can compromise, we can help each other search it out in this dump and afterwards you can be my little slave and I'll make sure to protect you." He teased as a lamp was tossed hard at the males head.
" FUCK OFF! " She cried out, anger in her voice. Bitterness. No one suggested such things to her. Ever. The guy was only more amused at this.
" Oh... so I hit a sore spot my little pet?" He teased as another item was tossed hard at the male. A anger welling her, only a start to the storm that was to come. Her blonde hair swirled about her shoulders as green eyes bored into the unnatural man. He was so dead.

Mal was pretty much floored by the sight of two people fighting in his apartment. Not so much because there were people in his apartment fighting over stuff. No that would make sense. The fact they were fighting with swords in this day and age was beyond odd though. Professional fencers turned thieves perhaps?
Either way they were tearing the place up pretty badly and he wasn't about to just jump into a sword fight with his hands. Still he'd have to do something about all this before one of them killed the other and he had to explain all that to the police. Only problem was they were between him and his guns so that made things awkward.
He remained quiet and as still as he could manage, flicking his eyes around what he could see of the room. There were a few things that might be useful. His bo staff wasn't too far away from the door. While he'd never really used it in a fight, especially not against a swordsman, he figured he might be able to scare them off if needs be. He kept his eye on the pair, waiting for them to get distracted by one another so he could make his own move.

Clare focused, using her natural abilities to tie into her surroundings. She tried to read the humans emotions... to try to feel him out but something was blocking her. She figured it was the stone doing so as she looked to the man who had taken this moment of distraction to lunge. Clare cursed as she twisted, the sword drawing right through the side of her thigh makeing her bite her lip in dire pain. In the same swift moment she crammed the dagger into the back of the male. Trying to nick his heart but failing as the man cried out knowing a near mortal wound. He then sensed the human, starreing towards the door before cracking the woman in the face with the butt of his sword to bruise her and knock her down to make his escape.
" This isn't over .... I'll have that artifact.... and you can rot in human jail bitch." he smirked as he jumped out of the window into the night leaving a blood trail behind as he dissipated into the night and away from this place. Clare was upon the floor, moaning and writhing in pain. She lost a good amount of blood, not enough to kill but enough to make her incapable of running on fast feet in human form. She wasn't about to go jaguar with a human within eyesight of her... never... she would rather die then let anyone know the truth of her race. They were alive.

Mal watched the event unfold until the man had disappeared out the window. He noted he had a strange manner of speech for just a moment before walking in and shutting his door behind him. The girl didn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon so he wasn't too worried about her. All the same he grabbed his staff before approaching her, keeping one end pointed at her as he circled around to stand in front of her.
"Now I'm sure you know that it's none too kind to be looking into taking a man's property without asking. Given how it looks like you might be needing to see a doctor before the night's out how about you agree to play nice so I can patch up that leg of yours. I would consider calling the police right away but I don't much feel like following the advice of someone who'd crack a pretty girl in the face." He waited to see what her reply would be while he took a look over her wounds. He'd at least need to stop the bleeding before anything else. Assuming she wanted to play nice of course.

Clare winced in pain, forcing her arms to move to push upwards, though still starring down at the floor not looking up to the man above her. He thought he had the upper hand.... hadn't anyone ever told him a cornered animal as a dangerous animal? She coughed, spitting out a bit of blood upon the floor as she wiped her mouth from where the man had cracked her with his sword hilt. She looked around, her dagger laying a bit away from her. She didn't need it if the human tried anything, he was just a human. Though well she wasn't going a admit she was in a predicament.
" No police.... no doctor." She panted as she slowly turned her pretty blonde face upwards to stare into the eyes of the human. Bright green orbs looked up at him, her blonde hair falling down about her from it's previous up style pony tail. She was Cat, also known as Clare about these parts.... owner of the bookstore and so much more. She had seen the man a few days prior in her store and talked with a happy serene nature about herself. He was just a human customer then, a human who had revealed too much. He didn't know this personality. The dark thief in search of the artifacts to save her race... the hunter and the warrior. She didn't make one move. She allowed the human to react first to her.... to see what he would do.

After studying her for a while longer he slowly moved around to her side, nudging the dagger a little further away with his staff. He recognised her, though their meeting had been brief. Still not that he knew her well but it was a surprise all the same.
"Hadn't expected to be seeing you so soon Claire, I guess there isn't as much money in bookstores as I thought. Unless this relic hunter type deal is just a side job for you. Well now, guess that means I should patch you up, though I wouldn't go thinking you won't be explaining things in return for messing up my place." he sighed, moving over to rummage through one of his cabinets. He'd acquired a few odds and ends over the years and some odd training. Basic first aid amount his talents.
"Put that leg out as straight as you can and hold it up in the air, it'll reduce the amount of blood flowing out of it."

Claire listened to him with a frown as she forced herself to a chair and put her leg straight on out with pain but in a manner saying this was not the first time she was wounded.
" I know that." She fussed as she cursed a bit silently to herself.
" And I wasn't expecting to see you so soon either. " She replied after a moment of studying him, as if accessing if he was worthy to be spoken to but really in her mind she was processing how much to tell him. How much could a human actually handle without going crazy. She looked off with a frown, retreating to a place in her mind to think as she seemed a bit out of it.
" I'd rather clean the place up then explain." She frowned after a moment, her eyes returning to his own, again judging, how much to say and how much to hide. She felt the blood slowly dribbling from her wound as she remained still. Noting how he made sure the dagger was far away.
" I wasn't aiming to kill you with that any time soon so you know. I was aiming to take objects, not life." she did say at least that much to him.

"Maybe, but I'd rather not be watching your hands while dressing your wounds. Would like to keep the surprises to a minimum thank you. He replied as he crouched down next to her, unwrapping the bandages he'd dug out as he set about bandaging her leg.
"Still, I don't think you'll be cleaning anytime soon with this leg. I'd imagine you owe me at least a simple explanation for this damage at least." he smiled, setting about all this with a fairly laid back manner. Of course with this he'd be missing his job interview and probably his chance at the job. Not that he'd head off when there was somewhere in need.
"I won't pry why you don't want the police or doctors involved but that man seemed quite set on getting whatever you were after. I'd like to at least know what I should be looking out for."

Clare huffed at this as she sat there, biting back the pain she was feeling inside of herself. Being the ever studious warrior showing no pain from being harmed. Right now she was the polar opposite of the woman who had ran the shop he had once met. She snorted, frowning, knowing it would be a few days till this wound healed.
" True... shit and I have to open the damn shop come morning." She cursed to herself thinking over his other words. She might as well tell him a little. Since the man would come back and probably kill this little human.
" I remember you speaking of a stone at the shop.... some things in this world are greatly sought after. Things you would never think about in a million years kid. Things that are way beyond the value of money and all that nonsense." She warned him.
" If you treasure your life don't speak about that stone in public again." She told him.
" I don't take life of people like you, that guy though. Wouldn't think twice about it." she warned as she looked to his eyes. Waiting to see if he would freak or take her words to heart. She was studying him as any wounded animal would. Always accessing, always making sure of her options and escape routes.

Mal nodded a little as he put the final touches on the bandages, making sure they were wrapped well around the wound. It wasn't an amazing job but it should stop her bleeding out. At least until she got some proper medical attention.
"I wouldn't worry so much about the shop for the moment if I was you. You don't want to keep that wound open." He told her seriously, giving the dressing a final check over. before sitting back, leaning his staff over his shoulder as he watched her.
"I was talking about a few stones, you'd have to be more specific. Though I guess I'll be more careful. Who knew the antiques market was so deadly huh?" He joked a little, not wanting to worry too much about the particulars right this minute.
"I'm sure but I would have to assure you I'm not exactly helpless." Of course she probably wouldn't believe that but that was her choice.

I know what you were talking about, one or many I need to see every one to be sure if they are what is being sought after." She snorted at him in a very feline like manner.
" The antiques market is only deadly if you are looking for the wrong things..... such as I do." She smirked to herself with confidence. Biting back the pain again.
" You might think yourself not helpless but you are more so then you can ever imagine. Would you of liked to go at it with my opponent?" She asked him, almost teased him.
" We were well matched..... you wouldn't of even heard him come in. It would of been over before you could of reacted especially if he latched onto your mind. " She told him as she looked him over again thinking to herself.
" Since I have bled for those stones bring them out. I want to see them. Unless you think I'll run away with them like this." She told him waving to her leg, she knew it would be healed in two days or so but he didn't need to know that.
" If I am right.... then you are in a world of trouble as long as you have those things. Especially if wind catches on that you might have a few of these stones." She told him as she watched his face, his reaction. Mentally took in the scents coming off of him to see whether they were of fear of male confidence.

"I would say you take yourself too highly but I imagine that would be rather presumptuous of me huh?" He replied to her, keeping a fairly calm attitude even with her teasing. He didn't know who this woman really was but he knew it was best to never over estimate yourself if you didn't know the full story.
"I guess I can go and pull out what I've got that you might be after. Don't make any promises it's what you think I have though." He told her, checking over her bandages one last time to make sure they'd be okay if she decided to move suddenly. With that he moved into another room, setting about working his way through a couple boxes before returning with a handful of stones and gems. Mostly old antiques with little value though a set of two stone seemed a little more remarkable. Both with earthen hues and lighter swirls running through them. The stones were almost perfectly circular and embedded in a simple copper star.
"Take your pick, still quite sure none of this stuff is of any value Of course I assume for my own good involves turning over and forgetting about right?."

Clare looked over the gems and stones but the two pulled to her, her inner beast roared in anticipation. They were stones of the earth, only two but two was two closer to owning the set then she had been prior. She shuffled the others away from the stars and smirked as she spoke.
" That would be presumptuous to the T." She smirked, Amused as she ran her fingers over the stars, feeling the pull feeling the power. She closed her eyes, her skin crawling with power, she could see why many would kill for these items. It was not for her personal use she reminded herself, it was for her pride, her pack and her tribe.
" I would say so, but I know your not that stupid. I know you will want to barter for these am I correct?" She asked.
" If that idiot hadn't come I would of had them easy....." She whispered wondering how to unlock their secrets and to find out which element the stones were of.

Mal chuckled at her words, shaking his head some.
"Maybe you would have and I would have been none the wiser eh? Unfortunately or not we're stuck with one another for the time being." He sat himself back down, leaving his bo stick to one side since he was quite sure he wouldn't need it for the time being.
"Some kind of compensation would be nice. Given that that guy has his heart set on these stones and since your injured I don't think I'll be handing them over to you just yet. Not unless you want to hire me as a bodyguard in the meantime anyway." He smiles some, rolling his shoulders some.
"Of course I could throw in helping with your store for free since I wouldn't want you to miss out on the business as well."

Her green eyes went to him, watching him to see if he was actually serious. She laughed for a moment then stopped starring. He... was serious wasn't he?
" I don't need a body guard." She snipped then stopped. Looking him over. A young man.... nicely built might attract some of the young women into her store. She knew men sometimes came around to watch her and her unusual appearance and she always suckered them into buying her wares.... They could play both sides of the gender spectrum and then she shook her head. What the hell was she THINKING! with this she frowned.
" Though I do need help at the store..." She thought a bit.... again looking off with a frown.
" No way, you don't know what your getting yourself into. You are way better off dumb and blind, those that work for me have to have opened eyes and it's not in the same manner as your thinking kid. Far from it. " She told him but her hand did motion to touch the stones again. She wondered again how a human came into holding these things of ancient power.
" Though it does make me wonder..... what in the world did your ancestors get into to acquire such things... things people would kill to posses." she told him.

"I'd beg to differ with that wound but I won't press the issue. I could however do with the work, especially if you are going to be taking what seem to be my most valuable items off my hands." He wasn't too sure what she thought he wouldn't be able to handle about the job but he assumed it was related to whatever mess had spilled over into his apartment. He was having a hard time imagining what she was caught up in, though she seemed pretty sure it'd be over his head.
"Kid though? I can't see you being more than a couple years my senior unless they've gotten really good at plastic surgery as of late. I'd like to think what I'm looking a is natural though." He smiled, watching how she treated the stones. Something wasn't adding up here that was for sure.
"My ancestors were apparently privateers, though I'm sure the legal term for piracy doesn't fit their activities apart from making their relatives feel better. We kept a lot in the family and we've had a few antique enthusiasts since so I really couldn't tell you exactly where they came from. I might be able to dig something up but that's not on the top of the list when I still need a job.

Clare looked up with a sudden frown gracing her lips. " You would be surprise how youthful some people can stay now a days." She smirked as if she had a secret she was not willing to share. " Offer me these stones.... I'll give you the job. It's only a few hours till I open and I should give you the run down now. First though. You best pack a few weapons beneath your cloths. At least a dagger if your skilled with it. I won't pussy foot around this topic at all." She smirked as if she had some personal joke rolling around in her head. " When you work for me you never know what sort of ... customers you will receive. Your going to be getting yourself a real wake up call on the world. Though first I will tell you this. Breath a word of anything you see to others and you will be dealt with. Maybe by my hand... or maybe by another. I am only doing this cause I need the stones, you need a job, and I think perhaps your one of the few who can actually survive the REAL world." She smirked. " By the way, the name is Clare 'Cat' Theron." She smirked deviously at him. " And if you want to be paid when your done with your weapons collecting you can carry me back to the store. My thigh hurts something awful." She spoke the last part with a bit of a whine, like a perfect actor of course. She could of forced herself through the pain and walk to the store on her own. She had done it many a time before but it was nice to elude this human into her bidding and for once she could be pampered like a proper feline. Little did she know this human would shake her world as much as she was about to shake his. (( XD >.>; Clare starts off really bitchy but I am going to have her soften up as she grows as a character. And for when your ready a new board as well cheshirecity.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=theronsshop ))

"I think we have ourselves a deal then, even if you won't divulge your beauty secrets." Mal grinned, if nothing else it seemed like it would be a bit of fun. Though he still didn't know what she could possibly expect to have to worry about.
"I'm pretty used to non-disclosure agreements." He told her as he moved once more to get a pair of leather gloves and a kitchen knife. He doubted he'd need the knife but he wasn't about to argue since she seemed so set on everything being so dangerous.
"Malcolm Ryans, though I have no issue with being called 'Mal'. Nice to meet you cat." He relied with as much of a smirk as she did before bending down to pick her up, being careful of her thigh as he hoisted her up just like a pampered princess. He moved easily even with her weight, and soon enough they were out of the apartment and heading towards the shop.
